Chapter 8: They had only one Loaf
Chapter 8: They had only one Loaf
Previous Chapter: Children's Crumbs
On the previous occasion, when Lord want to provide the food to five thousand men [and their families], the first thing came into disciples mind was "Money", that's why they asked, "Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?", but now, they did not speak single word about Money, its a huge change in disciples life - 1.In those days, when again a great crowd had gathered, and they had nothing to eat, he called his disciples to him and said to them, 2.I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. 3.And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way. And some of them have come from far away. 4.And his disciples answered him, How can one feed these people with bread here in this desolate place? 5.And he asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven” 6.And he directed the crowd to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven loaves, and having given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and they set them before the crowd. 7.And they had a few small fish. And having blessed them, he said that these also should be set before them. 8.And they ate and were satisfied. And they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full. 9.And there were about four thousand men. And he sent them away - Mark 8:1-9
And last time, when Lord fed five thousand with 5 loaves, the disciples took 12 baskets full of leftover bread, which means each one of them took one basket full of leftover bread, when every one's mind towards the leftover bread, Lord did not travel with them, and the disciples boat also got into trouble.
but, this time they took only 7 baskets leftover bread, which means, out of 12 disciples only 7 of them collected the leftover bread, and 5 of them did not, and Lord traveled with them for the sake of the 5 disciples who did not care about the leftover bread - 10.And immediately he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the district of Dalmanutha - Mark 8:10
When the reached Dalmanutha, they had an encounter with Pharisees, and Christ response towards the arrogant pharisees touched the disciples, they realized Christ's compassion towards the humbles and needy, and His anger towards the proud and wealthy, and they dropped everything they had at the beach of Dalmanutha, even the seven baskets of bread - 11.The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him. 12.And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.” 13.And he left them, got into the boat again, and went to the other side. 14.Now they had forgotten[neglected] to bring bread, and they had only one loaf with them in the boat - Mark 8:10-14
But this was translated as disciples forgotten to bring the bread, what the very first thing fishermen do before setting sail? is to load all their supplies onto the boat.
and also once the boat is setting to sail, the very first thing that would catch our eyes are the items that we have left at the shoreline, and its impossible to believe that no one noticed the 7 basket full of bread that is sitting at the shoreline of Dalmanutha.
the disciples have seen those seven baskets sitting at the shoreline of Dalmanutha, yet, a transformation had taken place within them, they understood that we must ignore worldly thing, and our heart should not go behind the worldly things, and they prooved it, none of them spoke single word about the 7 baskets of bread, and they all are looking at Christ, this very act, described in the Bible as "they had only one loaf with them in the boat", that "one loaf of bread" is none other than Jesus Christ himself.
