Chapter 14: In Your name
Previous Chapter: What were you disputing?
How did the disciples learn to pray in the name of Jesus? Who taught them to pray in the name of Jesus? Mary who carried Jesus in her womb did not know how to pray in the name of Jesus; John the Baptist, who baptized Jesus, did not know how to pray in the name of Jesus; So how did the disciples learn to pray in the name of Jesus? - 6.But Peter said, I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk! 7.And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. 8.And leaping up, he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God - Acts 3:6-8
This is how the disciples learned to pray in the name of Jesus, after failed in casting out the demons, the disciples were so upset, and one day they saw some one doing the ministry in their area, preaching boldly "Repent the Messiah Jesus has come".
But the disciples were so mad on him because He is doing the ministry in their area, and preaching about their Master, so they started the conversation and inquired about him, and said we are already doing the ministry here, so do not come to our area.
As the crowd gathered there were few evil possessed people also among them, but the man continue preaching Jesus, the evil possessed people started rolling on the ground and started making strange noises, that's when the disciples learned that all the power resides in the name of Jesus, and we must pray in the name of Jesus. the preacher who saw the suffering of demon possessed, said boldly "In the name of Jesus, get away Satan", immediately the demons screamed in terror and left the people, the disciples were utterly astonished, because this is the first time they saw someone praying in the name of Jesus, and they all marveled miracles happen for the name of name Jesus, but the disciples could not find that preacher, but learned critical lesson that is to pray in the name of Jesus - 49.John answered, Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not follow with us. 50.But Jesus said to him, Do not stop him, for the one who is not against you is for you - Luke 9:49-50
After this great lesson, Jesus sent them again for ministry, but this time He sent them as a church, there were 70 people in it, there was no apostle, no first level leader, no second level leader, the Lord alone was their leader, The Lord said, "Behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves." The Lord said that we should be like lambs. The nature of the lamb is that it does not bite, it does not have sharp teeth to hurt others, it does not seek glory, it trusts only in its mother, so we must trust in Christ alone - 1.After this the Lord appointed seventy-two[a] others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go. 2.And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. 3.Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. 4.Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and greet no one on the road. 5.Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’ 6.And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you. 7.And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. 8.Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you. 9.Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10.But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, 11.‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’ 12.I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town. 13.“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14.But it will be more bearable in the judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you. 15.And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades. 16.“The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me - Luke 10:1-16
In the beginning, when the disciples came back from their ministry, they did not have the heavenly joy that the Lord gives them, because they were saying "the miracle they have done", "I am the greatest", but now they were full of joy, because they only glorified the Lord's name by saying "miracles are done in the name of Jesus", not one of them said that I am the greatest, the Lord was their leader - 17.The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name - Luke 10:17
When the disciples become those who pray in the name of the Lord and ascribe all the praise and glory to Jesus, it is the promise given by the Lord - 18.And he said to them, I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19.Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. 20.Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven. 21.In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. 22.All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. 23.Then turning to the disciples he said privately, Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! 24.For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it - Luke 10:18-24
And before going to cross, Jesus remainded his disciples again to pray in the name of Jesus, today billions of prayer getting lifted up every seconds, its because Christ ultimate sacrifice on the cross - 23.In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. 24.Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full - John 16:23-24
