Chapter 5: Tell what great things God has done
Previous Chapter: Who touched my garments?
Under the title "Lessons of Jesus" we are studying how Jesus Christ, much like sports team coach who would always focus on this team, lived alongside with His disciples and transformed those who were unruly into His own children, and in last two chapters we saw how Jesus Christ did two pairs of miracles, the disciples were so amazed by the miracles, but after the miracle what Christ did is confused them, because He healed a man possessed by the Legion of demons and said, go and tell what great things God has done for you - 38.The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39.Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you. And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him - Luke 8:38-39
And after raising the daughter of synagogue leader Jairus from dead, he said, tell no one what had happened - 54.But taking her by the hand he called, saying, “Child, arise.” 55.And her spirit returned, and she got up at once. And he directed that something should be given her to eat. 56.And her parents were amazed, but he charged them to tell no one what had happened - Luke 8:54-56
The man possessed by the Legion of demons, came as an out of minded person, naked, smelly, body full of wounds, he was a gentile man who does not know anything about the Bible, whereas Jairus came as a synagogue leader, man of great dignity, fully clothed, a Jewish man who know and practices all the Bible principles, when we compare these two men, the most qualified person is to preach the Gospel is Jairus the synagogue leader, but Christ charged him not to speak anything about the miracle, but to the Legion of demons possessed man, He said, go and tell what great things God has done for you.
Perhaps if Lord would have sent Jairus to the ministry, how he would have preached? First of all, Jairus would preach only to those who come to his synagogue, and then he would need well organized meeting slot to share his testimony, and in that meeting, first he will talk about himself, history of his Jewish family line, synagogue ministry, and then he will talk about prophet Elijah and Elisha how they raised the dead, and finally we will compare Jesus Christ with Elijah, will anyone be saved by hearing this message? No, Not at all!
but the Lord sent a man who was suffered by the Legion of demons, saying, go and preach what "God" has done, and He went and preached what "Jesus" has done - 38.The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39.Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you. And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him - Luke 8:38-39
Because in his heart undoubtably "Jesus" was "God", he was the very first person sent forth by the Lord to the ministry, but the disciples still did not know that Jesus is God, and thiking that Jesus is some special spiritual gifted person, with that the disciples also completing their first year acadamy.
