Lessons of Jesus
Chapter 3: Tell what great things God has done
Chapter 3: Tell what great things God has done
Previous Chapter: Let us go over to the other side
Under the title "Lessons of Jesus" we are studying how Jesus Christ, much like sports team coach who would always focus on this team, lived alongside with His disciples and transformed those who were unruly into His own children, and in this chapter will see one of the important lessons that Christ taught his disciples.
As Jesus Christ continue doing His ministry, He healed a man possessed by the Legion of demons - 38.The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39.Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you. And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him - Luke 8:38-39
And then, Christ raised the daughter of synagogue leader Jairus - 54.But taking her by the hand he called, saying, “Child, arise.” 55.And her spirit returned, and she got up at once. And he directed that something should be given her to eat. 56.And her parents were amazed, but he charged them to tell no one what had happened - Luke 8:54-56
The disciples were so amazed by these miracles and began to understand the power of the Lord, but after the miracle what Christ did must have confused them, because He said to the one who came with Legion of demons, "Go and tell to everyone", and to the one who came as a synagogue leader, "Do not tell to anyone".
The man possessed by the Legion of demons, came as an out of minded person, naked, smelly, body full of wounds, he was a gentile man who does not know anything about the Bible, whereas Jairus came as a synagogue leader, man of great dignity, fully clothed, a Jewish man who know and practices all the Bible principles, when we compare these two men, the most qualified person is to preach the Gospel is Jairus the synagogue leader, but Christ charged him not to speak anything about the miracle, but to the Legion of demons possessed man, He said, go and tell what great things God has done for you.
Perhaps if Lord would have sent Jairus to the ministry, how he would he have preached? First of all, Jairus would preach only to those who come to his synagogue, and then he would need well organized meeting slot to share his testimony, and in that meeting, first he will talk about himself, history of his Jewish family line, synagogue ministry, and then he will talk about prophet Elijah and Elisha how they raised the dead, and finally we will compare Jesus Christ with Elijah, will anyone be saved by hearing this message? No, Not at all!
but the Lord sent the man who was suffered by the Legion of demons, and saying, go and preach what "God" has done, and He went and preached what "Jesus" has done, because in his heart Christ was God, and this is how he would have shared his testimony.
I was a demon possessed man, used live among the tombs and on the mountains, used to rome as a naked man, when people binds me with shackles and chains, i used to wrench the chains apart and broke the shackles in pieces.
but one night, as the legion of demons started tormenting me, i was crying out loudly and cutting myself with stones, and my cry reached the God, and that time there was a storm, as i was watching the ocean in the moon light, i saw a boat coming towards Gerasenes, and everyone waving their hands as the boat got stuck in the storm, suddenly a voice came from that boat "Quiet be still", it was so commanding, so powerful, so comforting, and immediately the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
for that very commanding word, not only the wind and ocean terrified and calm down, but the demons which used to torment me also terrified, from that moment my healing started, when i came down i saw the one who spoke "Quiet be still", that is Jesus of Nazareth, the God of Heaven - 1.They came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gerasenes. 2.And when Jesus had stepped out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit. 3.He lived among the tombs. And no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain, 4.for he had often been bound with shackles and chains, but he wrenched the chains apart, and he broke the shackles in pieces. No one had the strength to subdue him. 5.Night and day among the tombs and on the mountains he was always crying out and cutting himself with stones. 6.And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and fell down before him. 7.And crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me.” 8.For Jesus had already said to the spirit, “Come out of the man, you evil spirit” - Mark 5:1-8
And then all the Legion of demons started begging him, because He is God of all the power, and then the Legion of demons took the shuttle called pigs and got into the ocean for permanent calm down, it's all happened by his single command "Quiet be still", He is God Almighty, the Savior of the World - 9.And Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” He replied, “My name is Legion, for we are many.” 10.And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the country. 11.Now a great herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside, 12.and they begged him, saying, “Send us to the pigs; let us enter them.” 13.So he gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out and entered the pigs; and the herd, numbering about two thousand, rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the sea - Mark 5:9-13
This is how he shared his testimony and preached Gospel, and he was the very first person sent forth by the Lord to the ministry, because we just need to know Jesus is God to be saved, and to do the ministry, but the disciples still did not know that Jesus is God.
