Trinity of Jesus Christ
Chapter 17: Zechariah's Explanation
Previous Chapter: Altar, Temple, and Throne
In the previous chapters, we have explored the scriptural evidences which reveals the Trinity of our Lord Jesus Christ, when the Son [Son of the Word] manifested in the flesh, the Son of the Father and the Son of the Holy Spirit also dwelt within Him, and all three of them suffered for our salvation, and in this chapter will explore how prophet Zechariah illustrates the Trinity of Jesus Christ, Before that, we must learn about the rivers that flowed from Eden - 10.A river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and there it divided and became four rivers.11.The name of the first is the Pishon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12.And the gold of that land is good; bdellium and onyx stone are there.13.The name of the second river is the Gihon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Cush. 14.And the name of the third river is the Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates - Genesis 2:10-14
When God created countless water bodies in this world, the Book of Genesis talks about one particular river that is flowed out of Eden and became four rivers, and then the Bible says, the first river Pishon could produce gold, bdellium, and onyx stone, why its matter? because no one in this earth required of this gold, bdellium, and onyx stone, as it was mentioned even before Adam and Eve committed the sin, that time they were not even required of cloth, then why did Bible talks about the gold, bdellium, and onyx stone?
Actually the river Pishon reveals the Trinity of our Lord Jesus Christ, that is why it is recorded that this river held three precious things: gold [Son of Word], bdellium [Son of Father which is called grace], and onyx stone [Son of Holy Spirit which is called truth] - 14.And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth - John 1:14
The other three rivers Gihon, Tigris, and Euphrates illustrate the nature of our Heavenly God, who exists as three persons: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, just like the four great rivers, the vision of Zechariah featured with four types of horses - 8.I saw in the night, and behold, a man riding on a red horse! He was standing among the myrtle trees in the glen, and behind him were red, sorrel, and white horses. 9.Then I said, What are these, my lord? The angel who talked with me said to me, I will show you what they are - Zechariah 1:8-9
In Zechariah vision, the first horse represents the Son of God, the fact that a man was depicted riding it signifies that the Lord would reveal Himself as the Son of Man, the other three horses that stood behind red, sorrel, and white illustrate the nature of the invisible God, comprising the Word, the Father, and the Holy Spirit as three distinct persons
In the Bible, horses were used as a metaphor to represent the spirit; that is why the prophet Isaiah said the Egyptians are just a horses of flesh, but our Lord is God of Spirit - the Egyptians are man, and not God, and their horses are flesh, and not spirit - Isaiah 31:3
Like the prophet Isaiah, the prophet Habakkuk also spoke of Jesus Christ, using the horses as a metaphor - 8.O Lord, were You displeased with the rivers, Was Your anger against the rivers, Was Your wrath against the sea, That You rode on Your horses, Your chariots of salvation? 9.Your bow was made quite ready; Oaths were sworn over Your arrows. Selah 10.You divided the earth with rivers. The mountains saw You and trembled; The overflowing of the water passed by. The deep uttered its voice, And lifted its hands on high. 11.The sun and moon stood still in their habitation; At the light of Your arrows they went, At the shining of Your glittering spear. 12.You marched through the land in indignation; You trampled the nations in anger. 13.You went forth for the salvation of Your people, For salvation with Your Anointed. You struck the head from the house of the wicked, By laying bare from foundation to neck. Selah. 14.You thrust through with his own arrows The head of his villages. They came out like a whirlwind to scatter me; Their rejoicing was like feasting on the poor in secret. 15.You walked through the sea with Your horses, Through the heap of great waters - Habakkuk 3:8-15
Prophet Zechariah, who saw four types of horses in Chapter 1, now in Chapter 6 saw four types of chariots, where the first chariot, yoked with red horses, signifies Jesus Christ, the Son of God; it was He who, appearing as the Angel, explained these matters to Zechariah. The other three chariots illustrate the invisible God—revealed as three Persons: the Word, the Father, and the Holy Spirit - 1.Again I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, four chariots came out from between two mountains. And the mountains were mountains of bronze. 2.The first chariot had red horses, the second black horses, 3.the third white horses, and the fourth chariot dappled horses—all of them strong. 4.Then I answered and said to the angel who talked with me, What are these, my lord? 5.And the angel answered and said to me, These are going out to the four winds of heaven, after presenting themselves before the Lord of all the earth - Zechariah 6:1-5
Prophet Zechariah, who say four types of horses, and then he saw four types of chariots, now he calling them as four winds of heaven, and at the end it all originated from Lord of all the earth, that is what metaphorically mentioned in the Book of Genesis, where four rivers originated from river of Eden.
In the first vision Zechariah beheld, the man mounted on the red horse represented Jesus Christ, the Son of God—which is why he addressed Him as "Lord"; He is the very One who interacted with all the old testament prophets including Abraham and Moses, bearing the identity of the "Angel of the Lord." - 10.So the man who was standing among the myrtle trees answered, ‘These are they whom the Lord has sent to patrol the earth. 11.And they answered the angel of the Lord who was standing among the myrtle trees, and said, We have patrolled the earth, and behold, all the earth remains at rest. 12.Then the angel of the Lord said, O Lord of hosts, how long will you have no mercy on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, against which you have been angry these seventy years? - Zechariah 1:10-12
Furthermore, when the prophet Zechariah inquired about the three horses standing behind our Savior, Jesus Christ, Our Lord addressed them as "Lord of Hosts" which made it clear that He is the God of heaven, and the three types horses explains his trinity - the Word, the Father, and the Holy Spirit.
further reading, we can understand that, his sole desire is for us to be saved and become children of the Lord - 13.And the Lord answered gracious and comforting words to the angel who talked with me. 14.So the angel who talked with me said to me, Cry out, Thus says the Lord of hosts: I am exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion. 15.And I am exceedingly angry with the nations that are at ease; for while I was angry but a little, they furthered the disaster. 16.Therefore, thus says the Lord, I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy; my house shall be built in it, declares the Lord of hosts, and the measuring line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem. 17.Cry out again, Thus says the Lord of hosts: My cities shall again overflow with prosperity, and the Lord will again comfort Zion and again choose Jerusalem - Zechariah 1:13-17
Here, Zechariah could not speak directly to the Father [three horses that stood behind], and he could speak only through our Savior Jesus Christ. Ultimately, Zechariah understood the Father's will through Jesus Christ—namely, that Jesus Christ Himself was to be revealed as the Temple of God, and that through Him, goodness and comfort would come to us.
Just as the vison of four horses, in the vison of four chariots, one of chariots brought the reconciliation between God and the Man - 6.The chariot with the black horses goes toward the north country, the white ones go after them, and the dappled ones go toward the south country.” 7.When the strong horses came out, they were impatient to go and patrol the earth. And he said, “Go, patrol the earth.” So they patrolled the earth. 8.Then he cried to me, Behold, those who go toward the north country have set my Spirit at rest in the north country - Zechariah 6:6-8
Prophet Zechariah, who saw four types of horses, and then four types of chariots, and then four types of winds, now explaining through four individuals: Heldai, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Branch - 9.Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: 10.Receive the gift from the captives—from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have come from Babylon and go the same day and enter the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah. 11.Take the silver and gold, make an elaborate crown, and set it on the head of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest. 12.Then speak to him, saying, Thus says the Lord of hosts, saying: Behold, the Man whose name is the BRANCH! From His place He shall branch out, And He shall build the temple of the Lord; 13.Yes, He shall build the temple of the Lord. He shall bear the glory, And shall sit and rule on His throne; So He shall be a priest on His throne, And the counsel of peace shall be between them both - Zechariah 6:9-13
Here the first three persons Heldai, Tobijah, Jedaiah are representing our Heavenly God, who exists as three persons: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, but the forth person Branch [Son of Word] had two more identity, Josiah the son of Zephaniah [Son of Father], Joshua the son of Jehozadak [Son of Holy Spirit], that is our Lord Jesus Christ.
This entire vision of Zechariah is centered on our salvation which brought through the crucifixion of our Savior Jesus Christ, and finally prophet Zechariah wrote about the Second Coming of the Lord, Here he referred our Heavenly Father with three names [Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah], and the Son Jesus Christ as Hen the son of Zephaniah - 14.Now the elaborate crown shall be for a memorial in the temple of the Lord for Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Hen the son of Zephaniah. 15.Even those from afar shall come and build the temple of the Lord. Then you shall know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me to you. And this shall come to pass if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God - Zechariah 6:14-15
Finally, let us consider the vision of the prophet Ezekiel: just as a river flowed from Eden and branched out into four great rivers, and just as Zechariah saw four types of horses in a vision, so too did the prophet Ezekiel see the Father and the Son as four living creatures - 4.As I looked, behold, a stormy wind came out of the north, and a great cloud, with brightness around it, and fire flashing forth continually, and in the midst of the fire, as it were gleaming metal. 5.And from the midst of it came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: they had a human likeness, 6.but each had four faces, and each of them had four wings. 7.Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the sole of a calf's foot. And they sparkled like burnished bronze. 8.Under their wings on their four sides they had human hands. And the four had their faces and their wings thus: 9.their wings touched one another. Each one of them went straight forward, without turning as they went. 10.As for the likeness of their faces, each had a human face. The four had the face of a lion on the right side, the four had the face of an ox on the left side, and the four had the face of an eagle. 11.Such were their faces. And their wings were spread out above. Each creature had two wings, each of which touched the wing of another, while two covered their bodies. 12.And each went straight forward. Wherever the spirit would go, they went, without turning as they went. 13.As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, like the appearance of torches moving to and fro among the living creatures. And the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning. 14.And the living creatures darted to and fro, like the appearance of a flash of lightning - Ezekiel 1:4-14
