Lessons of Jesus
Chapter 3: Tell what great things God has done for you
Chapter 3: Tell what great things God has done for you
Previous Chapter: Let us go over to the other side
Under the title "The Teachings of Jesus," we are examining how Jesus Christ, much like a Bible college instructor, lived alongside His disciples and transformed those who were unruly into His own children.
The Lord, who calm down the wind and the sea, performed some amazing miracles as he continued, He healed a man possessed by a multitude of demons, and then he raised the daughter of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue, to life. The disciples who saw these miracles began to understand the power of the Lord. It is written in the three gospel books, Matthew, Mark, and Luke that these miracles happened one after the other, because when we compare these miracles, we can learn many divine secrets - 38.The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39.Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you. And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him - Luke 8:38-39
Afterward, the Lord who raised to life the daughter of Jairus, the synagogue leader gave this command - 54.But taking her by the hand he called, saying, “Child, arise.” 55.And her spirit returned, and she got up at once. And he directed that something should be given her to eat. 56.And her parents were amazed, but he charged them to tell no one what had happened - Luke 8:54-56
After performing these two miracles, the command given by the Lord must have been confusing for the disciples, because he said to the one who came naked, "Go and preach", and to the one who came dressed as a leader of the synagogue, he said, "Do not preach".
The man possessed by the Legion of demons, came and fell down before the Lord as naked, smelly, out of minded, with wounds all over his body, whereas Jairus the leader of synagogue came and fell down before the Lord as a man of great dignity, fully clothed, possessed of scriptural knowledge, a good family background, and both social and financial influence.
When we see all these things, the most qualified person to preach our Lord Jesus Christ is Jairus, but the Lord chose man who was possessed with evil spirit, wandering naked, because Jesus was a true deity in his heart, so when Jesus sent him saying, go and preach what great things God has done for you, He went and preached what great things Jesus has done for him.
Perhaps if the Lord had sent Jairus to the ministry, who knew all the scriptures and the Old Testament things, how would he have preached? I have read about the Old Testament prophet Elijah and Elisha, here is Jesus who has come to our church and performed the same miracle, he would have preached that he wishes to do many more miracles, will there be soul salvation? Not at all!
That was the reason, the Lord sent the man who had recognized Him as God, the one delivered from the legion of demons, he was the very first person sent forth by the Lord for ministry, but the disciples still did not know that the Lord is God.
