Why Jesus Christ called Simon Peter as Cephas (Rock)?

One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas (which is translated, A Rock) - John 1:40-42

Why Jesus Christ said "On this rock i will build my church"?

He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven - Matthew 16:15-19

Because after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, Peter is the one who lifted up the first prayer In the name of Jesus Christ - Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms. And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.” So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength - Acts 3:1-7

Today every seconds billions of prayer goes to heaven in the name of Jesus Christ - On this rock I will build My church. 

மனிதவரலாற்றில் யாருமே தேவனை "பிதா" என்று அழைத்தது கிடையாது. அப்படி தேவனை, அப்பா பிதாவே என்று அழைப்பதற்கு யாருக்கும் தகுதியும் இருக்கவில்லை, பழைய ஏற்பாட்டு தீர்க்கதரிசிகளால் கூட தேவனை பிதா என்று அழைக்க முடியவில்லை,  அது இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவால் மாத்திரமே கூடியதாய் இருந்தது - 13.பின்பு யூதருடைய பஸ்காபண்டிகை சமீபமாயிருந்தது; அப்பொழுது இயேசு எருசலேமுக்குப் போய், 14.தேவாலயத்திலே ஆடுகள் மாடுகள் புறாக்களாகிய இவைகளை விற்கிறவர்களையும், காசுக்காரர் உட்கார்ந்திருக்கிறதையும் கண்டு, 15.கயிற்றினால் ஒரு சவுக்கையுண்டுபண்ணி, அவர்கள் யாவரையும் ஆடுமாடுகளையும் தேவாலயத்துக்குப் புறம்பே துரத்திவிட்டு, காசுக்காரருடைய காசுகளைக் கொட்டி, பலகைகளைக் கவிழ்த்துப்போட்டு, 16.புறா விற்கிறவர்களை நோக்கி: இவைகளை இவ்விடத்திலிருந்து எடுத்துக்கொண்டுபோங்கள்; என் பிதாவின் வீட்டை வியாபார வீடாக்காதிருங்கள் என்றார் - யோவான் 2:13-16

இப்படி இயேசு கிறிஸ்து தேவனை "என் பிதா" என்று சொன்னதை ஏற்று கொள்ள முடியாத யூத மக்களால் அவரைக் கொலைசெய்ய எத்தனித்தார்கள் - 16.இயேசு இவைகளை ஓய்வுநாளில் செய்தபடியால், யூதர்கள் அவரைத் துன்பப்படுத்தி, அவரைக் கொலைசெய்ய வகைதேடினார்கள். 17.இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி: என் பிதா இதுவரைக்கும் கிரியைசெய்துவருகிறார், நானும் கிரியைசெய்துவருகிறேன் என்றார். 18.அவர் ஓய்வுநாள் கட்டளையை மீறினதுமல்லாமல், தேவனைத் தம்முடைய சொந்தப் பிதா என்றுஞ்சொல்லித் தம்மை தேவனுக்குச் சமமாக்கினபடியினாலே, யூதர்கள் அவரைக் கொலைசெய்யும்படி அதிகமாய் வகைதேடினார்கள் - யோவான் 5:16-18 

இப்படி இயேசுவை கொலைசெய்ய பார்த்த மக்கள் மத்தியிலும், சிலர் இயேசுவை தேவனுடைய குமாரன் என்று ஏற்றுக் கொண்டார்கள், அவர்களை இயேசு கிறிஸ்து தனது சொந்த இரத்ததினாலே தேவனுடைய பிள்ளைகளாக, அதாவது தேவனை பிதா என்று அழைக்க தகுதி உள்ளவர்களாக மாற்றினார் - 17.இயேசு அவளை நோக்கி: என்னைத் தொடாதே, நான் இன்னும் என் பிதாவினிடத்திற்கு ஏறிப்போகவில்லை; நீ என் சகோதரரிடத்திற்குப் போய், நான் என் பிதாவினிடத்திற்கும் உங்கள் பிதாவினிடத்திற்கும், என் தேவனிடத்திற்கும் உங்கள் தேவனிடத்திற்கும் ஏறிப்போகிறேன் என்று அவர்களுக்குச் சொல்லு என்றார். 18.மகதலேனா மரியாள் போய், தான் கர்த்தரைக் கண்டதையும், அவர் தன்னுடனே சொன்னவைகளையும் சீஷருக்கு அறிவித்தாள் - யோவான் 20:17-18 

இப்படி இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் இரத்தத்தினால் மீட்கப்பட்ட நாம் தேவனை அப்பா, பிதாவே! என்று அழைக்க புத்திரசுவிகாரம் பெற்றவர்களாய் இருக்கிறோம், இது தேவனால் உண்டான கிருபை, இதுவே மரணத்தை நோக்கி ஓடிகொண்டிருக்கும் நமக்கு கிடைத்த சுவிஷேகமாகவும், உயிர்தெழுதலின் நற்செய்தியாகவும் இருக்கிறது  - 1.பின்னும் நான் சொல்லுகிறதென்னவெனில், சுதந்தரவாளியானவன் எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் எஜமானாயிருந்தும், அவன் சிறுபிள்ளையாயிருக்குங்காலமளவும், அவனுக்கும் அடிமையானவனுக்கும் வித்தியாசமில்லை. 2.தகப்பன் குறித்த காலம்வரைக்கும் அவன் காரியக்காரருக்கும் வீட்டு விசாரணைக்காரருக்கும் கீழ்ப்பட்டிருக்கிறான். 3.அப்படியே நாமும் சிறுபிள்ளைகளாயிருந்த காலத்தில் இவ்வுலகத்தின் வழிபாடுகளுக்கு அடிமைப்பட்டவர்களாயிருந்தோம். 4.நாம் புத்திரசுவிகாரத்தையடையும்படி நியாயப்பிரமாணத்திற்குக் கீழ்ப்பட்டவர்களை மீட்டுக்கொள்ளத்தக்கதாக, 5.காலம் நிறைவேறினபோது, ஸ்திரீயினிடத்திற் பிறந்தவரும் நியாயப்பிரமாணத்திற்குக் கீழானவருமாகிய தம்முடைய குமாரனை தேவன் அனுப்பினார். 6.மேலும் நீங்கள் புத்திரராயிருக்கிறபடியினால், அப்பா, பிதாவே! என்று கூப்பிடத்தக்கதாக தேவன் தமது குமாரனுடைய ஆவியை உங்கள் இருதயங்களில் அனுப்பினார். 7.ஆகையால் இனி நீ அடிமையாயிராமல் புத்திரனாயிருக்கிறாய்; நீ புத்திரனேயானால், கிறிஸ்துமூலமாய் தேவனுடைய சுதந்தரனாயுமிருக்கிறாய் - கலாத்தியர் 4:1-7

When the Angel of the Lord called Joseph as son of David, we all know that Angel of the Lord is referring King David who lived around 850 years before  - Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit - Matthew 1:18-20

And now Jesus is calling Simon Peter as son of Jonah in 3 different situations - When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am? So they said, Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets. He said to them, But who do you say that I am? Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven - Matthew 16:13-17, John 1:42,  John 21:15, John 21:16, John 21:17

Who is Jonah here? - there was a great prophet named Jonah who lived around 500 years before in the same region, And this Jonah suffered lot while carrying the Lord's message to the Gentiles.

And also Bible tells that Prophet Jonah lived between Nazareth and Capernaum - In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, began to reign in Samaria, and he reigned forty-one years. And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. He did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin. He restored the border of Israel from Lebo-hamath as far as the Sea of the Arabah, according to the word of the Lord, the God of Israel, which he spoke by his servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was from Gath-hepher. For the Lord saw that the affliction of Israel was very bitter, for there was none left, bond or free, and there was none to help Israel. But the Lord had not said that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven, so he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash - 2 Kings 14:23-27

If God could remember Jonah, and chase his generation even after 500 years, Definitely your sacrifice for Jesus Christ will not go vain.
