Do not touch Me
Touch Me, once I ascended to the Father
Touch Me, once I ascended to the Father
Previous Chapter: Are you the teacher of Israel?
The prophecy tells us that Jesus Christ is our true Holy Altar, that we should touch Him and receive holiness and the healing that comes with it - 36.Every day you shall offer the bull of sin offering for atonement. You shall cleanse the altar when you make atonement for it. You shall anoint it, to sanctify it. 37.Seven days you shall make atonement for the altar, and sanctify it; and the altar shall be most holy. Whatever touches the altar shall be holy - Exodus 29:36-37
That is why, when Jesus Christ touched a leper, the holiness that came from the Lord not only cleansed the leper but also healed his leprosy - 40.Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” 41.Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” 42.As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed - Mark 1:40-42
Furthermore, the people of Gennesaret demonstrated that the power of Jesus Christ has the power to sanctify not just one specific person, but everyone in this world - 34.When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret. 35.And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent out into all that surrounding region, brought to Him all who were sick, 36.and they besought him that they might only touch the border of his garment: and as many as touched were made whole - Matthew 14:34-36
In this case, what did the Lord mean when He said to Mary Magdalene, “Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father”? If it had been the Lord's intention that no one should touch Him, He could have appeared to Mary Magdalene at a distance beyond her reach or while standing atop a mountain! - 15.Jesus says to her, Woman, why do you weep? Whom do you seek? Thinking that it is the gardener, she says to Him, Sir, if you have carried Him off, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away. 16.Jesus says to her, Mary. Having turned around, she says to Him in Hebrew, Rabboni, that is to say, Teacher. 17.Jesus says to her, Do not touch Me, for not yet have I ascended to the Father. Now go to My brothers and say to them, I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God - John 20:15-17
This can be easily understood with a simple example: a child approached its mother with both arms raised, but she replied, "I cannot pick you up right now; I am cooking." The true meaning behind her words was, "Once I finish cooking, I will pick you up and hold you on my lap"—and the child understood this as well.
If that mother had simply said, "I cannot pick you up," it would have implied that there was no relationship between her and the child; however, she replied, "I cannot pick you up *right now* because I am cooking." Similarly, our Lord did not merely say, "Do not touch Me"; instead, He said, "Do not touch Me, *for I have not yet ascended to My Father*." He spoke this way to convey that even after He ascended to the Father—that is, after He went to heaven—we would still be able to touch Him.
Furthermore, He gave the command, "Go to My brothers and tell them, 'I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God,'" precisely so that not only Mary Magdalene, but we too, might touch Him and receive healing.
Not only that, but our Lord Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If all the sick people of Gennesaret could touch Him when He was on earth and be healed, there is no doubt that we can touch Him in heaven and be healed. Let us touch Jesus Christ with faith, who gave His life for us, and we will receive perfect healing - Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever - Hebrews 13:8
