Previous Chapter: I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel
Even though there are many gods on this earth, the true God can be identified by the attribute of "Goodness", that is why David, the Psalmist, wrote this - For the Lord is good, His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations - Psalms 100:5
Just as a nation can have only one president and a college can have only one principal, similarly, there can be only one truly good Being in the entire universe, that is Jesus Christ, the Almighty God who created the heavens and the earth.
When He came to this earth, someone called Him "Good Teacher" - As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. Good teacher, he asked, what must I do to inherit eternal life? - Mark 10:17
He did not call Jesus Christ as "Good" to proclaim that He is "God", rather, he did so merely to portray himself as a righteous person. that was the reason, the Lord asked this question to bring out what was in his heart - 18.Why do you call me good? Jesus answered. No one is good, except God alone. 19.You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’ - Mark 10:18-19
In his reply, the thought he harbored in his heart regarding Jesus Christ was revealed, for the man who had initially addressed Jesus Christ as "Good Teacher" now quietly omitted the word "Good" and simply called Him "Teacher" - And he answered and said to Him, Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth - Mark 10:20
In other words, he removed the word "good" and declared that Jesus Christ is not God, the outcome was indeed tragic, for he lost his everlasting life - 21.Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 22.At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth - Mark 10:21-22
If he had said to Jesus Christ, "You are God, that is why I am calling you "Good Teacher," he would have inherited the kingdom of heaven, and gone away with the peace of God - 9. If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10.For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11.As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” - Romans 10:9-11
He teaches sinners in the way
The books of Matthew and Luke highlights one more reason for this rich man lost his eternal life, that is his self righteousness, He never admitted himself as a sinner, instead, he portrayed himself as a righteous person, effectively presenting himself as equal to God - 18.A certain ruler asked him, Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life? 19.Why do you call me good? Jesus answered. No one is good except God alone. 20.ou know the commandments: You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother. 21.And he said, All these things I have kept from my youth - Luke 18:18-21
For David, who said that the Lord is good and upright, also wrote another secret, which is that to anyone who recognizes his shortcomings and confesses that he is a sinner, the Lord will reveal to him the way to eternal life - Good and upright is the Lord; Therefore He teaches sinners in the way - Psalms 25:8
But this rich man never admitted himself as a sinner, and went away without salvation, only sorrow and grief followed him - 22.When Jesus heard this, he said to him, You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me. 23.When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy. 24.Jesus looked at him and said, How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! 25.Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God. 26.Those who heard this asked, Who then can be saved? 27.Jesus replied, What is impossible with man is possible with God - Luke 18:22-27
If he had said to Jesus Christ, "You are a Holy God who knows everything, but I am a sinful man, and need your help to inherit the eternal life," he would have received forgiveness from the Lord, and a gift of Holy Spirit, and the eternal life.
Father who is in heaven give good things
The psalmist David, who introduced the Son of God as "good," introduces the Holy Spirit as "good things," and says that we must be hunger for the Holy Spirit - 8.Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men! 9.For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with good things - Psalms 107:8-9
In the Bible, the word "good things" refers to the Holy Spirit, for in the Gospel of Matthew, it is written that "God gives good things" - 11.If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! - Matthew 7:11
But, in the book of Luke, it is written that "God gives Holy Spirit" which means that if there is one thing that is good for all of us, it is the "Holy Spirit" - 13.If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him! - Luke 11:13
Again, the psalmist David confirms that only through Jesus Christ we can receive the Holy Spirit, all other gods would give you only evil spirit, which will lead you the eternal hell - The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing - Psalms 34:10
This is what Solomon the wise wrote: "Whoever is foolish, let him come to the Son of God [Wisdom of God], and receive forgiveness of sins and the Holy Spirit." - 1.Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars, 2.She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table, 3.She has sent out her servants, and she calls from the highest point of the city, 4.“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him, 5.“Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed. 6.Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of insight.” - Proverbs 9:1-6
Solomon the wise also wrote, just as Jesus Christ calls us to eternal life, the other religion [the foolish woman] will call you to eternal hell through idolatry, sinful desires - 13.A foolish woman is clamorous; She is simple, and knows nothing. 14.She sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city, 15.calling out to those who pass by, who go straight on their way, 16.Whoever is simple, let him turn in here; And as for him who lacks understanding, she says to him, 17.“Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious!” 18.But little do they know that the dead are there, that her guests are deep in the realm of the dead - Proverbs 9:13-18
